Cannes

Cannes is one of the beautiful cities on the French Riviera, best known for the annual Cannes Film Festival which takes place each May. The Palais des Festivals is the superb landmark building which hosts the event and dominates the city. The centre of Cannes has many exclusive shops, restaurants and five star hotels which accommodate the rich and famous from all over the world. After dark the nightlife is buzzing, particularly around the casinos and outdoor restaurants.

The long sunny summers attract many visitors to Cannes to enjoy the gorgeous beaches which line the Mediterranean Sea. Sailing, swimming and walking along the promenade around the large bay are just some of the activities which are available. The marina is always full of luxury sailboats and mega-yachts. One of the most charming areas in Cannes is Le Suquet with its cobbled streets and wonderful views. The outdoor tables are a great place to people watch. Cannes also has many lovely parks.

One of the most historic landmarks is the interesting Cannes Castle which sits high above the city. It is a pleasant place to stroll up to with wonderful sea views from the top. It also houses the Musée de la Castre. The simple Notre Dame Esperance Church is nearby and is a cool and quiet haven after the busy city.

The nearest International Airport to Cannes is at Nice, but one of the best ways to visit Cannes is by train. The railway line runs along the coast from Marseille to Nice, Monte Carlo and Cannes, with great views of the stunning coastal scenery.
