January 18, 2010| Spain | Barcelona| Cities

Over the years Barcelona has become a city of great diversity.  There is so much to see and do when visiting this very historic and beautiful city that its best to know your options in regards to getting around.

The quickest and certainly the easiest way of reaching every part of this city is by using the Metro system. Unlike other cities in Spain there are two available for you to use. The subway comprises 5 lines and the FCG comprises 2 lines within the city of Barcelona plus a further 4 lines that allow you to access towns close by. So of course exploring more of this region becomes a great deal easier.

Taxis are another affordable alternative to public transport.  A 15 minute journey will normally cost about 10 Euros.  However if you're attempting to get around in the very heart of the city a taxi may not be the best choice. Most of the city centre is pedestrianized and the roads that go through the centre can be quite small and congested.

However if you are looking to see more of the city rather than just travelling to and from certain attractions then hope on one of the city’s many buses. Yes it may take longer to travel to your chosen destination but it offers you some really great views of the city as you travel on them.

When it comes to visiting the city of Barcelona there are a couple of places that you should include in your tourist itinerary.

1. Museu Picasso – Situated on the Carrer de Montcada of all the museums located in this city this is the one that most visitors go to. The whole museum is housed within 3 stone mansions and houses various works by the famed artist Picasso including those from his early years.

2. La Sagrada Familia – This building as you look at it is truly awe inspiring and is homage to Barcelona’s favourite son Antoni Gaudi whose life work it was to design it.
