Armeni is a small village on the northwest coast of Crete. It is about 25km from the airport at Chania and 10km from the ferry port of Souda. Taxi transfers from the airport are very affordable, particularly for families. Famous for its sunshine, Armeni boasts a wonderful Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers cooled by northern breezes, and mild winters with showers. Autumn is a beautiful season to visit when temperatures are cooler with plenty of sunshine.
Armeni is about 2km from the beach and village of Kalives. The abundant natural springs in the area keep it fresh and green, which is what makes this area so beautiful. This unspoilt Cretan village is close to a stunning stretch of sandy beach which has good facilities. Surrounded by olive groves in the shadow of the White Mountains, more active visitors will find there are many trails with hiking and cycling opportunities. Watersports, canoe trips, tennis, horse riding and fishing can all be enjoyed from a holiday rental in Armeni.
The village is clustered around the beautiful local church and is understandably popular with artists. There are plenty of local bars and tavernas serving traditional Greek food which is particularly healthy, home cooked and tasty. The village also has a small supermarket, a delicatessen selling wonderful local cheese and yoghurt and fresh bread is delivered daily to the central square. Armeni offers the chance to experience the cultural way of life in Greece as well as stunning beaches and watersports. Attractions in the area include the local barrel-maker, Chania Lighthouse, Lake Kournas and the Monastery Katholikas.
